OUR FAVORITES

Please enjoy some of our favorite activities and locations in the area. We've put them in distance order from Up North Resort, so you can find your own favorite and not be swayed by us. They include locations in Wascott, Gordon and Minong, with some honorable mentions from Solon Springs and Moose Junction.

We are avid ATV/UTV riders and highly recommend the Douglas County Trail System, the Washburn County Trail System and the Sawyer County Trail System. We can also recommend both Polaris Ride Command (although it's a little sketchy with low cell service) and Avenza Maps (better reliability with low cell service). Last but not least, Adam will always tell you to bring a paper map and a compass (at a minimum). Don't forget to tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return! Better safe than sorry out there folks.

While we do enjoy fishing, we don't do it as much as we use to. However, if you enjoy fishing you’ll find walleye, northern and panfish in both Cranberry Lake and the connecting Minong Flowage. If you don't feel like fishing but would like a fun tour around the flowage, we highly recommend taking The Dam Tour!

IN WASCOTT

• Ball Park & Pickle Ball Courts (2 Miles by Land) - A ballpark, kids park and pickle ball court. There is an outhouse and a pavilion for use as well.

IN GORDON

• Gordon Pines Golf Club (6 Miles by Land) - Challenging course surrounded by towering pine trees and areas of water. The 9-hole, par 36, public golf course opened in 2000 and was designed by Garrett D. Gill, ASGCA. The course measures 3,309 yards from the longest tees and  has a slope rating of 126 and a 35.6 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. Full service bar, snacks, and  banquet facilities.
• Gordon Fire Tower (9 Miles by Land) - Gordon tower is a 100-foot Aermotor, likely an MC-39 model. Originally built in August 1935. Gordon features a US Forest Service-style stairway.
• Forest Point Resort and Golf Course (22 Miles by Land) - Located on Lower Eau Claire Lake. 9-hole, par 36 course with beautiful views of lake; bent grass greens with blue grass fairways that are well spaced and cut through natural woodlands. A 115 slope with a 34.1 rating gives both the avid and amateur golfer a challenging and enjoyable round of golf. Golf clubs, riding carts and pull carts are available for rent.

IN MINONG

• Black Bear Golf Club (8 Miles by Land) - The scenic course debuted in 2001 and is an 18-hole, par 72, public golf course. Stop by the Pro Shop for assistance, or to make an appointment for lessons. Chipping, putting areas, driving range and bar & grill.

IN SOLON SPRINGS

• Hidden Greens North (22 Miles by Land) - A uniquely designed course that is fun and challenging for all skill levels. A tranquil 18-hole, par 72 course where golfers won't hear many sounds except birds in song, club heads knocking balls and the occasional sound of an  errant ball glancing off a red pine. Facilities include a driving range with target greens, chipping and practice putting areas, full service bar, food, small pro shop, and a banquet area.

IN WASCOTT

• Stop-A-Sec (2 Miles by Land) - Also known as "The Corner Store". Offering a range of snacks, beverages, and basic necessities. Stop-A-Sec provides a quick stop for travelers passing through the area. It has a propane tank fill station and ethanol-free fuel.
• The Shoppe Coffee & Ice Cream (2 Miles by Land) - A cozy coffee and ice cream shop. We're passionate about providing our community with high-quality coffee and ice cream.

IN GORDON

• ICO (10 Miles by Land) - Quick snacks and fuel.
• Gordon Station (10 Miles by Land) - Ice Cream Shop · Gift Shop · Landmark & Historical Place

IN MINONG

• Lucky Seven General Store (12 Miles by Land) - Quick snacks and fuel.
• Dollar General (12 Miles by Land)  Discount chain store. This location also offers services like FedEx package drop-off and AmeriGas propane exchange.
• Henson's Country Foods (12 Miles by Land) - We take pride in doing things the old-fashioned way. We're still in the original store, started back in the 30's. We've considered building a new store over the years, but folks keep telling us how much they like  the old store. Come on in and stroll around. Help yourself to a free cup of coffee and a cookie from the bakery.

IN WASCOTT

• Crystal Lake Bar (Less than 1 Mile by Land) - Enjoy a drink indoors or outdoors where you can view the beautiful Crystal Lake.
• Circle Pine's Bar & Restaurant (1 Mile by Land) - Join Wascott's hot spot on your next visit to the  northwoods! At Circle Pines we value friendship, family, and connection. Come by to have great conversation, cold beer, and delicious hot food!
• Chubby Cheeks Bar and Grill (3 Miles by Land, Miles by Sea is up to you!) - Closer to Up North by sea! Also a fun trail ride from the Stop-A-Sec. From signature burgers stacked high with flavor to expertly crafted refreshing cocktails, every item on the menu is a commitment to quality and taste. Come taste the difference at Chubby Cheeks, where every bite and sip is a celebration of great food and good times!

IN GORDON

• Marsh's View Point Resort (3 Miles by Land, Miles by Sea is up to you!) - Closer to Up North by land, but a fun sea ride! Serving a full menu from 11am - 10pm with appetizers available until close. Try the famous burgers and Bloody Mary's and then join the discount clubs for both.
• Seaman's Resort (3 Miles by Land, Miles by Sea is up to you!) - Closer to Up North by land, but a fun sea ride! We are a seasonal bar/resort, open May to mid October. We serve pizza, popcorn and ice cream.
• Pogo's Harbor Inn (3 Miles by Land, Miles by Sea is up to you!) - Closer to Up North by land, but a fun sea ride! A hidden gem on the serene shores of the Minong Flowage in Gordon, WI. This casual American eatery offers a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for families and groups alike, complete with  outdoor seating that boasts stunning views of the water.
• The Lookout (6 Miles by Land) - Closer to Up North by road, but a fun trail ride! A legendary tavern with great food. The Lookout overlooks the beautiful St. Croix flowage, and is right off of the snowmobile/ATV trail North 41 right down the road from the Saint Croix Dam.
• The Steel Horse Saloon and Grill (10 Miles by Land) - Your new go-to spot for great food, cold drinks, and good times! Whether you’re here for a  hearty meal, cocktails, or just to unwind with friends, we’ve got  something for everyone. Our lively atmosphere, delicious menu favorites, and top-notch service make every visit an experience to remember.
• The Buckhorn Bar and Grill (10 Miles by Land) - Daily food specials and monthly events.
• The Tree Stand Tavern (10 Miles by Land) - At The Tree Stand Tavern, there's something for everyone. Whether you're in the mood for mouthwatering food and drinks, live music, or other forms of entertainment, they have you covered. And with both indoor and outdoor seating options, you can choose to kick back and relax or get the party started!
• Beer Stone Bar & Grill (13 Miles by Land) - Pizza, burgers, apps, tacos, etc.
• Halfway Bar & Grill (16 Miles by Land) - If  you haven't checked us out, come to visit!  We have worked hard since  2022 to create a warm, fun and friendly place to grab a bite to eat,  hang out and listen to music or just have a drink! 
• Backwoods Bar & Grill (19 Miles by Land) - Full bar with a great variety of beverages. Full menu that offers unique and exceptional options.

IN MOOSE JUNCTION

• Moose Junction Lounge (10 Miles by Land) - Veteran Owned Business. Friendly atmosphere, clean, great menu items, renowned for Trents wingzings, 2nd Saturday of each month we have our Prime Rib Dinner.

IN MINONG

• A&W (12 Miles by Land) - Link Stop A&W has enjoyed serving the Minong community and surrounding areas with great food done fast for 17 years. We are looking forward to the next 17 years!
• TR Club Northern (12 Miles by Land) - Known for its good food, featuring homemade pizza, broasted chicken, hot and cold sandwiches and Friday Night Fish Fry plus a full bar.
• Longbranch Saloon & Eatery (13 Miles by Land) - Relaxed bar and grill with a menu of comfort food, cocktails, and a salad bar, plus live entertainment.
• Wendy's Place (13 Miles by Land) - Stop in for breakfast, we will be happy to make you anything from the Sportsmen’s Steak & Eggs breakfast to fresh cinnamon rolls; come back later in the day to enjoy burgers, salads, and wraps. Take-out is  available too!
