resort history
almost 100 years of service to the wascott area
History anyone?
We wanted to learn a little more about this little slice of heaven we’ve become the stewards of.
We posted to our own Facebook page and to the Gordon-Wascott Historical Society Facebook page for assistance with any information on the resort and we’ve been able to piece together the resort name and ownership history. Below is what we’ve been able to gather from previous owners, Facebook, Douglas County Register of Deeds and newspaper articles.
If you have any digital images you would be willing to share with us, please email them to info@upnorthresort.com.
If you have physical copies, we will gladly reimburse you for postage if you’d like to share!Mail to:

Mack's Resort
- (1957 – 1965) Walter & Veronica Freber (Butch & Ronny)
- (1944 – 1957) Joseph & Rose Mack
Private Resort
- (1940 – 1944) Ivar & Mildred Ingebretsen
Based on 1940 United States Census, Ivar is listed as a Private Resort Owner. We’ve had no luck in finding the name of the resort. The the other property in the area they owned was a home, so we’re assuming this is when the resort began.
Ivar was also a Douglas County Supervisor.
Private residence
- (1935 – 1940) Judge Anders Walter Dahl. We think this was the Dahl’s summer home as they were living in Superior at the time of ownership.
- (1922 – 1935) Henry Olson originally purchased the property from the United States Government on February 1, 1922
Historical map imagery
1938 – 2025
Some map enthusiasts out there may enjoy these GIS & Google maps we’ve found of the area through the years.
The last three images are from when a friend of ours flew over the campground.
